Our good friend, and discographer, Jack Litchfield has just sent me a copy of the minutes of the Canadian Collector’s Congress, held on Saturday, April 26th, in Toronto, Ontario. I would like to share this with our readers, so that they will know what transpired at this meeting.

Edison Historic Site: West Orange, New Jersey CAPS member, Mark Caruana will be presenting photos of a recent trip to Thomas Edison’s West Orange New Jersey research laboratory and home. The museum collections are by far the largest single body of Edison-related material. They are the product of Thomas Alva Edison’s sixty-year career as an inventor, manufacturer, businessman, and private citizen.  |

100 Years of Recorded Sound Blain McCutchen covered the first 50 years of recorded music beginning in 1877 up to the golden era of the 1927 at his last presentation. This year he will cover the next 50 years in which the record industry faced many headwinds from radio and television. What saved the industry, what social changes took place and how did they adapt.  |

Ephemera Show and Tell CAPS Member, Keith Wright will be inviting members to bring in ephemera items from their collections. He will be looking for printed items and novelties which highlight the history of the phonograph and the artists and companies who made the industry great.  |

Voices of the Silent Screen Silent movies sometimes starred actors and actresses who had glorious singing or speaking voices (e.g.: Ivor Novello, Ronald Colman, Basil Rathbone, and even Enrico Caruso). There were of course, others whose voices were not suitable for the Age of Sound, and most of them soon disappeared from the Silver Screen, Charlie Chaplin being the exception. CAPS Lifetime member, John Rutherfordpromises this talk will be profusely illustrated with photos and recordings.  |

Phonograph Videos CAPS past president, Mike Dicecco, and past APN editor/program convener, Mark Caruana, will be presenting a selection of videos highlighting the phonograph from television and film. Some of the anticipated videos are a Three Stooges short called Microphonies, a Laurel and Hardy film that includes a record shop and more recent findings from shows like American Restoration and Auction Hunters  |

Members are invited to bring in their rare and unusual phonographs to display and discuss. The Canadian Antique Phonograph Society meets on a regular basis, currently eight times a year between September and June. CAPS meetings attract more than 50 members and guests. Arrive early to peruse the auction tables.
Each meeting begins with a presentation of about one hour in duration by one of our members or a specially-invited speaker on one aspect or another of recorded-sound history. This is followed by a 20-minute social period where members exchange information about records, machines and parts, survey the auction tables and any set price sale items, or view one of the displays that members often set up. Facilities are also available for screening short videos during the meeting.
Following this is an auction of a wide variety of sound machines, recordings and music-related ephemera. Admission is $5 per person which pays for the meeting room and the refreshments. Guests are welcomed at our meetings. To participate in the auction, however, you must be a member.

Every so often I will be publishing items of interest to 78 rpm record collectors. Today, I am mentioning this organization, as I regard it as one of the best. There is a newsletter, meetings held six times a year, and even an auction of records, phonographs, etc. I have held a membership for two years now and urge you to join.
